Properties:
It is flammable and has low toxicity. Phthalide is soluble in organic solvents, but has low solubility in water. White solid, m.p.72-74℃, b.p.290℃, relative density 1.636, hardly soluble in water, soluble in organic solvents such as toluene.
Application:
Phthalide is an intermediate of the fungicide benzothiocarb. It is used as an intermediate of fine chemicals. It is used to produce dye intermediates 1,4-dichloroanthraquinone, 1-chloroanthraquinone, anticoagulant phenylindandione, fungicide tetrachlorophthalide, antianxiety drug doxepin, etc.
