Properties:
Isobutyl methacrylate is an unsaturated organic ester monomer with a unique structure. It is a colorless, transparent liquid at room temperature, exhibiting low viscosity, low volatility, and a pungent odor. The unsaturated double bonds in its molecular structure give it extremely high reactivity, enabling free radical polymerization. Simultaneously, the isobutyl ester side chains impart good hydrophobicity and steric hindrance, effectively lowering the polymer’s glass transition temperature and significantly improving its flexibility, impact resistance, and water resistance.
Application:
Isobutyl methacrylate plays two main roles in industry. First, as a key comonomer, it is widely used in the production of acrylic resins with excellent flexibility, weather resistance, and outdoor adhesion, making it an important raw material for high-grade coatings (such as automotive and architectural exterior coatings), adhesives, and textile treatment agents. Second, it is often used as a reactive diluent or toughening modifier to adjust the viscosity and cured film properties of photocurable systems (such as UV inks and coatings), or to provide toughening effects for plastics such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA).
