Properties:
Propylene carbonate (PC) is a polar aprotic solvent, a colorless and transparent liquid at room temperature. It possesses a high boiling point, high flash point, excellent chemical and thermal stability, and a very high dielectric constant, effectively dissolving and dissociating lithium salts. However, its reduction stability on graphite anode surfaces is poor, making it difficult to form a stable SEI film.
Application:
PC is primarily used as a co-solvent in lithium-ion battery electrolytes to improve the electrolyte’s low-temperature flexibility and flame-retardant properties. In addition, it is also a highly efficient desulfurization extractant in industry, an intermediate in polymer synthesis (such as polycarbonate), and an acid gas absorbent in the natural gas and petrochemical industries.
