Properties:
Methyl methacrylate (MMA) is a colorless, transparent, flammable liquid with a characteristic pungent odor. It is chemically reactive and readily undergoes polymerization. Its key properties include high transparency, excellent weather resistance and processability. It is miscible with many organic solvents but slightly soluble in water. As an important acrylate monomer, it is sensitive to light, heat, and peroxides, and polymerization inhibitors are typically added to ensure stability during storage and transportation.
Application:
The primary application of Methyl methacrylate (MMA) is in the production of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA, or acrylic glass) through polymerization, which is widely used in architectural lighting, automotive lighting, LCD light guides, and advertising signage. In addition, it is a key raw material for coatings, adhesives, and resin modifiers, and is used as a functional monomer in the synthesis of dental materials, artificial marble, and other specialty chemical products.
