ATMP Properties
Amino Trimethylene Phosphonic Acid (ATMP) is a highly effective phosphonic acid-based scale and corrosion inhibitor with the following characteristics:
Functionality:
Strong chelation of Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺, Fe²⁺/Fe³⁺, even at low concentrations (1–10 ppm).
Effective scale inhibition (e.g., CaCO₃, CaSO₄, BaSO₄) and corrosion protection for metals.
Synergistic effects when combined with HEDP or PBTC for enhanced performance.
ATMP Applications
Widely used as a cost-efficient scale and corrosion inhibitor in:
Water Treatment:
Cooling/Boiler Systems: Prevents CaCO₃ and CaSO₄ scaling at 2–15 ppm.
RO Membranes: Reduces metal ion fouling (Fe³⁺, Al³⁺).
Industrial Cleaning:
Acid Cleaning (HCl/H₂SO₄): Added at 0.1–0.3% to inhibit metal corrosion (steel, copper) during descaling.
Textile Processing: Controls metal ion interference in dyeing baths.
Oilfield Chemistry:
Scale Inhibition: Controls BaSO₄/SrSO₄ deposition in produced water (≤80°C)
Other Uses:
Pulp/Paper Industry: Stabilizes hydrogen peroxide bleaching.
Detergents: Acts as a builder to soften hard water.
