Product Introduction: Diphenyl Chlorophosphine
Overview
Diphenyl Chlorophosphine (DPCP) is a vital raw material in the production of photoinitiator TPO and is a key organophosphorus compound used in various industrial and chemical applications. As an essential intermediate, DPCP finds applications in the synthesis of UV stabilizers, organic phosphorus flame retardants, antioxidants, plasticizers, and asymmetric synthesis catalysts.
Synthesis Process
DPCP is synthesized through the Friedel-Crafts reaction, where benzene reacts with phosphorus trichloride in the presence of anhydrous aluminum chloride (AlCl₃) as a catalyst. After the reaction, a complex forms between DPCP and AlCl₃. A decomplexing agent, such as sodium chloride (NaCl), is then added to release free DPCP. However, this process generates significant quantities of sodium tetrachloroaluminate (NaAlCl₄) solid waste, which presents an environmental challenge due to its high volume (approximately 3 tons of waste per ton of DPCP) and residual DPCP odor. Addressing the disposal and recycling of this waste is a critical task for manufacturers.
